BECOME AN ALLYBeing an Ally is about:
- Being in reciprocal relationships with individuals who are struggling to get out of poverty.
- Helping your Circles Family fulfill their plans and meet their goals so they can move out of the instability and chaos of poverty.
- Changing our community to make the systems and infrastructure support people moving out of poverty instead of keeping the “status quo” which weakens our families and the community as a whole.
Who are Allies and what do they do?
An Ally is a person, usually from the middle-class, who is matched with a family with similar hobbies or interest, and is available to lend support. Allies team together as a Circle to befriend a family and assist them in following through with plans to meet their short-term and long-term goals. Allies do not try to "fix" problems; instead, they support the family to move out of poverty.
There are also opportunities to be an Ad Hoc Ally, which is a person who can support the families in other ways besides being a part of a Circle. This may include being available to help with plumbing assistance, computer training, babysitting, resume writing, spiritual guidance or other specific skills.
What is the time commitment?
All Allies need to attend a 6-hour training.
The total time commitment per month is a minimum of 5 hours.
2 Hours - Allies meet with their Circles once a month.
2 Hours - Allies attend a monthly Big View meeting to address community issues
