STORIES OF SUCCESS since April 2007

Results for the five Circle Leaders (CL) who completed "Gettin' Ahead":

Employment

  • One CL become self -sufficient!
  • There was a cumulative earned income increase of 33%
  • Four CLs obtained new and better employment
  • Four CLs obtained Health Benefits
  • Three CLs moved from at or below 100% of FPIG to above130% of FPIG (2 to 150%)
Education
  • All five CLs attended Money Management and Credit Classes and established budgets
  • Two CLs have enrolled in Community College (One full time, one for computer classes)
Housing
  • One CL obtained stable housing (previously homeless – and living with relatives)
  • Four others maintained housing
Transportation
  • One CL obtained a car
  • One CL got her car back from repossession
  • Two CL had their car fixed to get it back on the road
Loan Fund
  • Two CLs accessed the loan fund

Reciprocity

  • CLs contributed more than 100 reciprocity hours back to the community
    Three individuals serve on community boards
  • One CLs presented a community problem to the Borough Council
  • Four CLs participated in "Voices from Poverty," a speaking engagement to 100+ people at Gettysburg College about their experiences living in poverty.
  • All CLs facilitated two Poverty Simulations for the community.

Community Results

  • Training provided to community
    • Trained 27 Allies
      •  13 Ad hocAllies
      • 14 Regular Allies
    • Trained 1500 Individuals in Bridges
    • Hosted two Poverty Simulations

  • Resources provided to Circles
    • Received $44,500 Dollars in Grants ($20,000 from Wellspan, $15,000 from Robert C Hoffman Charitable Endowment Trust, $3,000 from Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, $6,500 from Adams County United Way)
    • Received more then $3,000 from Donations
    • Received more than $5,000 in In-kind Donations
    • 43 Number of Dinners were provided by the Campus Kitchen at Gettysburg College saving the initiative $6,450 Dollars
    • 400 hours of child care were provided
    • More than 2000 volunteer hours provided by community members (Guiding Coalition, Allies and Speakers)
